Jordi Meeus takes third on Tour of Norway first sprint finish

Due to horrible weather conditions with some snow, the race was shortened today to just over 85km. The pace was high but well controlled from the beginning and on the last climb of the day the bunch split into three groups. BORA – hansgrohe worked hard in the second group to bring back Jordi Meeus for a possible sprint finish which happened in the end. From almost 3km to go the team did a great lead-out, but Jordi lost the sprint to M. Teunissen by only a few centimeters.

From the finish line

“We had to invest a lot to come back after the last KOM and probably that was the energy I missed in the end. The boys did a brilliant job, also in the lead-out. I was in a perfect position, but just missed out to the line.” – Jordi Meeus

“We knew that the stage was on paper too hard for Jordi, and the weather really didn’t make it any easier. But he did a great job on the first climb and therefore we decided to go all-in for him. The boys did a brilliant job today! They first brought him back after the last climb and also did a perfect lead-out. Especially Jonas really sacrificed himself today. Of course, it’s a pity that this hard work didn’t pay off in the end, but still, we can be happy today. How they raced today as a team can only make us proud.”  – Christian Pömer, Sports Director
