Tour de Hongrie: Emanuel Buchmann 3rd in Gyöngyös-Kékestető mountain finish

The third day of the Tour de Hongrie (UCI 2.Pro) was the queen stage of the race. On the 182km long stage between Kazincbarcika and the summit finish in Gyöngyös- Kékestető, the climbers in the peloton were tested for the first time. After a lead out by his BORA - hansgrohe teammates on the final climb, Emanuel Buchmann attacked 1.5km before the finish, was able to go clear and already looked like the stage winner. Only a few meters from the finish line, the German champion had to admit defeat to T. Nys and D. Ulissi, who came sprinting from behind. With two stages to go, Buchmann now sits in 3rd overall, 6 seconds behind the yellow jersey.

From the Finish Line

“We waited for the final, steep 3 kilometers and then set the pace with Ben Zwiehoff. I gained a solid gap with my attack. 300m before the finish I was pretty sure that it would be enough for the win. I have to be honest: Nys and Ulissi surprised me. Of course I was disappointed at the end. Thanks to the small gaps, the GC is still quite open.” Emanuel Buchmann
