Jordi Meeus wins Circuit de Charleroi Wallonie

After the race was neutralized for more than an hour due to a non-race related accident, the 40km shortened last part was full-on racing. An initial break was caught shortly after the re-start and several riders attacked in order to split the field. But BORA – hansgrohe was committed to a bunch sprint today and the team did an excellent job to control the race until the end. On the final uphill stretch to the line Jordi Meeus proved to be the fastest today and took an impressive sprint victory.

From the finish line

“After the re-start it was basically full-on racing until the end. The team did a brilliant job to keep the bunch together and chase down different breakaway attempts. In the end I had to freestyle a little, but I found a clear line and had good legs. After a disappoint Classics season due to illness this victory means a lot to me. I really worked hard the last weeks and today it paid off.” – Jordi Meeus

“Our tactics was 100% focused on Jordi today. We wanted to have a bunch sprint and the boys did an excellent job to control the race. This victory was a real team effort, everyone was strong and committed and Jordi finished it off. I am happy for the team, but especially for Jordi because I know how hard he worked the last weeks to get back on top of the podium. This win was well deserved.” – Christian Pömer, sport director
