Nico Denz and Matt Walls succeeded in the technical finale of the 5th stage of the Tour of Türkiye. Both took the lead early over the winding final kilometers and gave the sprinters no chance in the 90-degree bends of Bodrum, making for a 1-2 placing for BORA - hansgrohe!
After two stage wins in the Giro d'Italia, Nico Denz celebrated his third success of the season today. Already 1500 meters ahead of the finish, he made the race-deciding move to the front and, with Matt Walls on his rear wheel, he led the peloton into the finale. Nico Denz stayed in front on the winding course until the line. Matt Walls secured his best result of the season so far with 2nd place.

Nico Denz: “Our idea was to get safely into the final. That's why Koni pulled on the climb and I then took over. We wanted to be the first to take the bend that came 1km before the finish. We knew it was so technical that no one could pass. 1 and 2 - that's really super and crowns an outstanding season for me. I'm very happy!”
Bernie Eisel, BORA - hansgrohe Sports Director at the Tour of Türkiye: "We did our homework today. I'm incredibly proud of the whole team. It was really "Band of Brothers"-like. Nico worked extremely hard, brought Ben back after his mechanical shortly before the finish, and then finished the stage very well. And I'm also happy for Matt, who is our regular sprinter here and secured the one-two."
