Paris-Nice: BORA - hansgrohe without a top result on today’s queen stage

Stage 7 of Paris-Nice was the queen stage of the “race to the sun“. 3500m of elevation on a distance of only 142.8km between Nice and a mountain finish at the Col de la Couillole were on the program for today. Nils Politt was part of a 19-rider breakaway which eventually was brought back at the bottom of the last climb. When the GC battle started on the 15km long final ascent, Bob Jungels had to ride his own rhythm from early on and ultimately crossed the finish line in 18th. It was the overall leader T. Pogačar who took the stage win.
In the overall standings, Bob Jungels sits in 17th ahead of tomorrow’s final stage of the race.

Like Maximilian Schachmann, Sam Bennett was also forced to leave the race due to illness.

From the Finish Line

“It was clear that today would be the GC day with a small chance of a top result for us. Our goal was to ride an offensive race and escort Bob Jungels to the final climb. Nils Politt put in a good race in the breakaway and was able to work on his shape in preparation for the upcoming classics. All our riders made it home safely - but of course we weren’t able to really mix things up today.” Rolf Aldag, Sports Director
