Schelling still second in GC after 4th place on Tour of Norway stage two

The second stage of the Tour of Norway 2021 led over 185 kilometers with start and finish in Sirdal. With 2 mountain classifications a total of over 2000 meters in altitude were on the program for the riders. After a short time, a breakaway group with a total of five riders was able to break away from the peloton and determine the race over long distances. When this group was finally brought back about 15 kilometers from the finish, there was a critical counterattack, which, however, was caught again by the collective strength of the BORA-hansgrohe riders. So there was finally a sprint for the day's victory on the last kilometer. Ide Schelling was able to show a good performance again and as fourth of the day remained without bonus seconds, but also without losing time on his GC competitors. This means that Schelling is still runner-up in the overall standings.

From the Finish Line

„After a slow start today the finale was pretty hectic. In the final kilometers a good group with also the leader could escape, luckily the guys were super strong and could close the gap for me and also placed me for the final corner of the day. It was very chaotic till that last corner but I managed to be in a good position for the final uphill sprint. I am very happy with my 4th place and especially that I did not lose any time for the GC.“ – Ide Schelling

„Today with the breakaway we stayed calm and tried to save as much energy as possible for the final uphill sprint. As the group was taken back and the counter-attack happened, the guys did an amazing job and brought Ide back to the front and also placed him perfectly for the final corner. He could now do his sprint but as it was a bit too explosive for him, we are very satisfied that he could stay up second in the GC with his 4th place.“  – Jean-Pierre Heynderickx, Sportlicher Leiter
