Second place for Pascal Ackermann on Belgium Tour day three

The third stage of the Belgium Tour 2021 led over 174.4 kilometers from Gingelom to Scherpenheuvel-Zichem and should be a day for the sprinters. While a breakaway group of 5 riders dominated long stretches of the day, the peloton controlled the distance and prepared for a fast finale. On the partly technical final lap, which had to be ridden three times, the BORA-hansgrohe kept up at the front of the peloton to enable Pascal Ackermann a good leadout for the final sprint. With a strong effort Ackermann was able to sprint to a second place. Ide Schelling came home safe and still sits in the Top Ten of the GC.

From the Finish Line

“Today our goal was to bring Pascal in a good position for the final sprint. The guys kept him out of trouble the whole day and did a good job in the finale. As Pascal gave everything and did a good sprint we are happy with our second place today. Tomorrow will be a very hard one and the decisive day for the GC, so we try to give our best with Ide to reach a good result there.” - Jean-Pierre Heynderickx, Sports Director

“The race today went well and the team always protected me in the most important situations and kept me well ahead. We also had a good leadout and I sat on the fastest wheel, but behind Caleb you don't have the best slipstream and so there was no chance. Still, I'm happy with today and hopefully there is another chance for a sprint coming up.” - Pascal Ackermann
