BORA-hansgrohe riders held up by big crash in the finale

Today's third stage of the Tour de Hongrie was again one for the sprinters. After a five-man breakaway group was able to escape from the peloton at the start of the stage, you could see Juraj Sagan at the front of the peloton all day controlling the breakaway in order to enable another bunch sprint. Unfortunately, the team had to start without Ben Zwiehoff today, who broke his collarbone in a crash in the final of the second stage. Nevertheless, the BORA-hansgrohe drivers were able to convince again with their team strength and put Jordi Meeus in a good position for the sprint. Unfortunately, due to the very hectic riding style in a turn about a kilometer from the finish, there was a big crash in which Jordi Meeus and Rüdiger Selig were also involved and thus had no chance to intervene in the sprint for the day's victory. Fortunately, all of the team's riders got away without major injuries.

From the Finish Line

What can you say, that's cycling. One day you win and the next day you are on the ground. Fortunately, all of the riders are without major injuries, but of course it's very annoying that we lost all chances of winning the stage. The team did a great job again and we have decided to wait until the home straight with our leadout, because we did not want to be too early with our timing. Unfortunately at the moment the crash was happening we were a few positions too far back and were stopped by that. Tomorrow is a new day and we want to try to shape the race for Frederik in order to get a good overall result. On Sunday we want to give everything again to win the stage.”- Steffen Radochla, Sports Director

Our plan worked perfectly up to one kilometer before the finish line. We wanted to start late with our leadout to good timing like the last days. But as a rider directly in front of us crashed shortly before the kilometer mark, I had to stop and Jordi fell. Fortunately, nothing worse happened, but it's still very annoying to lose all chances of winning the stage. But on Sunday there should be another chance for the sprint and we will do everything we can to win.”- Rüdiger Selig
