Changing weather conditions challenge riders on Tour Down Under opening prologue

For the first time a prologue was included in the Tour Down Under. However, due to logistical reasons, the riders had to complete the 5.5 km long course on road bikes and not on time trial machines. A few minutes after the first riders rolled off the start ramp, it began to rain, making the racing increasingly difficult. However, all BORA - hansgrohe riders crossed the finish line safely, with Maximilian Schachmann setting the best time for the squad from Raubling.

From the Finish Line

"It was a pretty tricky course out there, made even more difficult due to the changing weather conditions. Most of the guys just tried to race as fast as possible but also as safely as possible and tried to get to the finish while staying upright. We were lucky and all our guys came through safely in the end." - Jai Hindley

"It is somewhat difficult to assess the performance of our riders in comparison to our competitors. Unfortunately it began to rain when our first rider started the race. Even though in the end the route dried up somewhat, none of our riders had optimal conditions. But I think that applies to the majority of the GC riders, who all essentially rode in the middle of the race, so our chances still remain intact. Nevertheless, congratulations to Alberto Bettiol, who put in a strong performance. We're now focusing on the next stages, where we'll have to make up time and or fight for stage placings." - Christian Pömer, Sports Director
