Breakaway survives on Sazka-Tour opener

Five riders made it into today’s break on stage one of the Sazka-Tour and in the end, they survived at the front, holding off the bunch by 20 seconds. On an undulated parkour the bunch seemed to be in control, but after they accidently got off course and after a re-start, they couldn’t catch the break anymore. Jonas Koch was BORA – hansgrohe’s best placed rider today crossing the line in 10th place.

02       J. Meens                              + 0:00

03       M. Kukrle                             + 0:00

10       J. Koch                                + 0:23

From the finish line

“The race was under control, and we also started contributing to the work before we entered the finish lap. Our plan was to go for Jonas today, but also avoid losing ground with our GC contenders. Unfortunately, after the bunch went off course, the race stared with only 20km remaining instead of 25. In the end that was the reason why the break made it. Anyway, they deserved the win after a tough fight. Let’s see what we can do tomorrow.” – Torsten Schmidt, Sports Director
