8th overall for Patrick Konrad at the Tour de Hongrie

The fifth and last stage of the Tour de Hongrie was the queen stage of the race. 183.7km, three categorised climbs and the mountain top finish at Gyöngyös-Kékestetö awaited the riders. Seven kilometers from the finish line, on the final climb of the day, the last rider of the breakaway was brought back and the GC riders opened up the battle. Tiberi took the win on top of Hungary’s highest peak. E. Dunbar sealed the overall with Patrick Konrad in 8th.

From the Finish Line

“We worked a lot today and focused on the final climb of the stage. The boys did a great job escorting me to the climb. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to follow the decisive attack and was dropped with one kilometer to go. I felt super good over the past five days but honestly after all the health issues I had earlier this year I’m not at my best yet. Anyway I’m on a good path and am really looking forward to the summer and my next goals now.“ Patrick Konrad

“The team put in a lot of work to escort Patrick Konrad to the final climb of the day. In the end, he wasn’t able to follow the decisive attack and was dropped in the final kilometre. After some health issues earlier this year he’s still in the build up towards his main goals of the season and I’m sure he’s on a good path. I think we showed an offensive and active style of racing here over the past five days.” Torsten Schmidt, Sports Director
