BORA - hansgrohe rides attentively on nervous Giro Stage 11

Today's flat Stage 11 was 203 km from Santarcangelo di Romagna to Reggio. On paper it was one of the Giro's easiest stages, but the wind on the open roads was always going to be a danger. For the BORA-hansgrohe GC riders it was all about reaching the finish safely and without losing time. After a breakaway duo was brought back 90km ahead of the finish, it became more and more nervous in the peloton due to the wind. BORA-hansgrohe was often seen at the front of the peloton to keep the team's GC riders in a safe position. Despite a final breakaway attempt, the race came back together 1.5km from the finish, where the stage was decided in a bunch sprint. GC riders Jai Hindley and Emanuel Buchmann reached the finish line without losing any time and remain in 5th and 9th place in the overall standings, respectively.

From the Finish Line

"Even though today's stage was the easiest in terms of elevation gain, it was still very nervous, as evidenced by the 47km/h average for the day. Thanks to our car out front, we were always aware of dangerous situations in terms of wind and the danger for echelons. We were actually always up there, rode in front a lot and kept our two leaders Emanuel Buchmann and Jai Hindley well out of the wind. It was a very nervous day, but we managed it well and all arrived safely at the finish." - Jens Zemke, Sports Director
