Promising performance by Matteo Fabbro at Milano-Torino

Milano-Torino, the oldest one-day race in Italy, commenced in Magenta, from where the peloton set off on the 190km route to Superga. The relatively easy profile, however, featured the decisive climb of the Superga towards the end of the race, which was to be conquered twice. After the peloton split in the crosswinds, the race regrouped, with Matteo Fabbro finding himself in a large group together with several favourites. The Italian put in a strong performance on the Superga, but was ultimately unable to follow the decisive attacks in the race finale and ended up finishing 13th in Turin.

From the Finish Line

"The team did a great job to support us and bring us in a good position for the first climb. I did my best but ultimately, the others were simply stronger today. I attacked during the last kilometre but was brought back shortly afterwards. However, I can say that I felt good and I'm pretty happy with my form today." - Matteo Fabbro

"The goal was to bring Patrick and Matteo into a good position for the Superga, which had to be taken on twice. Of course, a critical situation already arose when 20 riders took off in the wind 60km ahead of the finish and the peloton was around 20-45 seconds in arrears. But luckily it all came together again, and we were able to put in a good lead-out for our riders, with Matteo then following that up with a strong performance. He tried to win the sprint against Valverde in the end, which would have been for 10th place. It was definitely a brighter shimmer of hope of things to come, and quite a good performance." - Jens Zemke, Sports Director
