Gooikse Pijl: Jordi Meeus sprints to a strong third place for BORA-hansgrohe

After the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen on Friday and the Primus Classic on Saturday, BORA-hansgrohe completed its Belgian racing campaign with the Gooikse Pijl. The 199-kilometre-long one-day classic was mostly held on a winding circuit between the towns Halle and Gooik that made it difficult for the teams to control the race. It was especially the teams Deceuninck-Quick-Step and BORA-hansgrohe who made sure that there was a mass arrival of the best sprinters at the end of the day. On the ascending finish straight, the Dutchman Fabio Jakobsen took the victory. Behind Danny von Poppel who came in as second, Jordi Meeus secured a strong third place for BORA-hansgrohe.

From the finish line

„As expected beforehand, today's race was difficult to control. The race was very fast and since there were not so many top sprinters at the start, we had to do a lot of chasing work throughout the day. However, the riders did a very good job and they all worked very hard to prepare the bunch sprint for Jordi Meeus. We also had three men left in the final, so Jordi was able to sprint for the win in the last 250 metres from a good position. In the end, we have to be satisfied with the third place. Fabio Jakobsen was the strongest rider today.“ – André Schulze, Sports Director
