Eighth for Erik Baska on Czech Cycling Tour stage two

Today’s second stage of the Czech Cycling Tour between Prostejov and Unicov was divided into two parts. An undulated first part and a fairly flat second part. As a result, lots of attacks were flying from the gun and after 20 kilometers Matteo Fabbro managed to go clear from the bunch together with two other riders. The trio spent most of the day at the front, while one of them was dropped in the second part of the race. Even Matteo and K. Bouwman tried everything to defend their lead, the bunch was able to catch them on the last 20 kilometers. A bunch sprint had to decide the stage, but a crash on the final kilometer shook up the race with Erik Baska not being able to show his full speed and finally finishing eighth, while J. Meeus took the win.

02 T. Merlier                       +0:00

03 M. Kanter                       +0:00

08 E. Baska                         +0:00

From the Finish Line

"The result in the end is not what we expected. Our lead-out went well in the end, but then a crash shook up the bunch. Erik lost the wheel of Martin Laas and was too far back in the final corner. There was not a lot more than the 8th place he could do in the end. But I am happy with the performance of Matteo. He initiated the break and took some bonus seconds; therefore, he was also awarded as the most active rider of the day." – Jens Zemke, Sport Director
