Reactions from Team Manager Ralph Denk, and Emanuel Buchmann, to the UCI’s revised WorldTour calendar

Yesterday the UCI announced the revised WorldTour calendar for the rest of the season. The re-commencement of the season is planned for 1 August, with Strade Bianche. In total, eight stage races and 17 one-day races are on the program.

"Firstly, it's nice to have a calendar. From a logistical standpoint, I don't see any problems, we are used to riding up to three race programs in parallel. What's a shame is that some of the Classics will take place at the same time as the Giro. I find that to be almost a little disrespectful, particularly as the season could have been extended longer to avoid that happening. But the most important thing is that all the big races are there. This means that the media presence of our sport is probably at a similar level as in recent years, which is crucial for the teams from an economic perspective. As far as race planning is concerned, we will now need about 3-4 weeks to work out individual race programs for the riders. We have a strong squad and want to compete for victory in all races if possible, so we’ll have to play our cards wisely. It’s slightly disheartening to see that Frankfurt and Hamburg are probably still fighting for dates, and I hope they will find a solution. That would be particularly important for German cycling. In addition, there are no EuropeTour dates set yet, and I expect that there will be one or two races taking place in July.“ - Ralph Denk

"My goal is and remains the Tour de France, nothing has changed in that respect. We already had the date of the Tour, but it's still nice to see that a little more life is coming into it and that everything is really taking shape. As things stand at the moment, I will probably only ride the Dauphiné before the Tour, because there is not enough time for a break between the Tour of Poland and the Dauphiné. There might be one or two more races on the EuropeTour as well, so we could potentially collect some race kilometers before the Dauphiné. But if it's only the Dauphiné, that's no problem for the Tour. A lot of the work is done in training, the racing just provides the finishing touches, a proper stage race is essentially enough.“ - Emanuel Buchmann
