BORA - hansgrohe concludes Hammer Limburg on the podium

The Hammer Series in Limburg came to a close with a team time trial pursuit style race. The teams were faced with four laps of 12.4 km each, making a total distance of 49.6km. The starting order was determined by each team’s standing in the overall ranking, with the team that crossed the line first in the group of finalists being declared the winner. With Juraj Sagan, Erik Baška, Andreas Schillinger, Oscar Gatto and the time trial specialist Maciej Bodnar, BORA - hangrohe took to the start as the second-placed team. The outfit from Raubling commenced the race against the clock 30 seconds in arrears of the leading team, Deceunick - Quick- Step, and by the first intermediate time check, found itself 40 seconds behind the Belgian squad. Despite their best efforts, they were subsequently caught by Jumbo Visma shortly before the second passage of the finish line. The team from Raubling rode full gas on the last laps, was able to catch up to the Dutch team, but eventually was overtaken 200m before the finish line, and finished the Hammer Chase in eighth place overall. After a sustained and solid performance over three days, the team concludes its Hammer Limburg Campaign in third place overall.

From the finish line

“Today we gave our best and we can be very satisfied with our third place. We knew, that it would be quite a challenge to bridge the gap to Deceuninck-QuickStep, and we also had to keep a close watch on Jumbo-Visma and Team Sunweb. We were overtaken by the Dutch team, and our plan was to pull past them in the final kilometre. We were admittedly able to do that, however, in the last 200m, they were just too strong for us, and overtook us again. But we finished the race here in Limburg with a podium place, and the whole team can be really happy with that achievement.” - Andreas Schillinger

“This was a fantastic performance. We fought it out with Jumbo Visma for second place, but in the end they overtook us. Although we trailed behind them, we always had them in our sights. We wanted to overtake them in the last corner, because Sunweb was also closely following us, and we really did not want to give up our podium place. In the end, our plan for today didn’t quite work out, however, we are very happy with our third place overall.” - Jens Zemke, sportlicher Leiter
