Jan Bárta takes second place in Czech Cycling Tour’s queen stage.

Today’s queen stage between Mohelnice and Sternberk saw a breakaway quartet leading the race for more than 130 kilometers. BORA – hansgrohe controlled the pace in the bunch, protecting their overall leader Sam Bennett. But when the group was caught and attacks started on the hilly finishing circuit, the race erupted again. Three riders did go clear first, but it was Jan Bárta who hit the front of the race with a 4-men group in the last lap, just bettered from J. Cerny in the sprint for the stage. Jan sits now also in second place in the GC, with 7 seconds’ deficit before tomorrow’s final stage. With Silvio Herklotz, BORA – hansgrohe has another rider in the top ten of the Czech Cycling Tour.

“Again, we worked the whole day in the peloton. First with Erik, later with Schwarzi and Juraj. The race favorites waited for the final laps to attack. We were well prepared and Jan was in the first group on top of the last climb. He attacked with 3k to go, but was caught from Cerny on the final kilometer, who took the stage in the end. We also had Silvio in the chasing group, taking 5th place, which is also a strong result. I am happy with the performances today, now we have to see what’s possible tomorrow.” – Jan Valach, Sports Director
